On The Other Hand to opowieść o pokusie, miłości i poczuciu lojalności. W utworze, Randy Travis wciela się w rolę młodzieńca, który – mimo iż jest żonaty – zakochał się w innej kobiecie. Mężczyzna bardzo pragnie związać się z kochanką, ale wie, że tym samym okrutnie zraniłby swą małżonkę. Kowboj czuje się rozdarty pomiędzy dwiema, ważnymi dla niego osobami.
Podmiot liryczny podkreśla, że z kochanką łączy go niesamowita namiętność. Młodzieniec marzy o tym, by bez przerwy móc trzymać ją w ramionach i nigdy więcej nie zostawiać jej w pustym łóżku. Niestety, zdaje sobie sprawę z tego, że żona nigdy nie zrozumiałaby jego związku z drugą kobietą. Z tego powodu mężczyzna po raz kolejny musi opuścić nieślubną przyjaciółkę.
