After Dern pulls Ava from the cliff , he demands an explanation. Before Ava gives him, she thinks about what cold have happened. If Dern wasn't there , would she would have went over? By only a few steps? Dern tightens his grip on Ava and asked her again why she was there. Ava told him she was she was "thinking". Dern gave her a look and asked her if she had a safer place where she could think. Ava grew upset with his comment and snapped at Dern. "I don't need a keeper" She said. Then a horrible thought surfaced in her head. "Don't tell me that my husband hired you as a babysitter or a bodyguard?" Dern rolled his eyes at Ava and told her he was looking for one of his horses, the horse Ava happened to be riding on

Ava looks away from Dern embarrassed. She had taken the horse without recognizing that Dern had to take care of them and keep them safe. Dern explained to her that he kept the herd in the barn at certain times and if she wanted to go for a ride all she had to do was bring it to his attention. He was basically trying to inform her that he wasn't upset with her. Ava was surprised at Dern's words. That he actually trusted her with a horse, or any animal for that matter. After all the things he has heard and seen. Especially after their first encounter when Ava decided to dive into the lake to look for her son. Dern had came to her rescue

Ava suddenly snaps on Dern regardless. She tells him this is her her land, her horse, and technically her island, so she shall do as she pleases. Before Dern could respond to Ava's objection. She jumped on her saddle and galloped of with Jasper. Dern had watched her run off with her childhood horse, he doesn't even try to stop her. Dern has never seen that side of Ava Garrison before. He knew before her son had gone missing, she had been know as a hardcore business woman. She shown no remorse to anyone, not even her family. Dern had only experienced her pathetic, soft, side. He always had a thing with women with a challenge. But she was a married, plus she wasn't even his type. Her physical appearance that is
