Ta piosenka została napisana przez Dolores po śmierci jej ojca. Powiedziała, że to był najbardziej bolesny moment w jej życiu. „Napisałam to około półtora roku po śmierci mojego ojca.
Byłam trochę zmieszana tym wszystkim, ponieważ trzymałam go za rękę, kiedy wziął ostatni oddech. Bardzo się ucieszyłam, że byłam z nim, ponieważ obawiałam się, że będę wtedy w trasie; tak wielu z mojej rodziny umarło, a nawet zostało pochowanych, a ja nie byłam na ich pogrzebach.
Mój dziadek zmarł w latach 90. i byliśmy w trasie, a ja napisałam o nim piosenkę „When You’re Gone” i pamiętam, że byłam naprawdę zdruzgotana. Ale The Cranberries byli związani umową i nie było możliwości powrotu i zobaczenia ich.
