Shinjū (心中) oznacza po japońsku „podwójne samobójstwo”. W języku potocznym odnosi się do każdego grupowego samobójstwa osób związanych miłością, zazwyczaj kochankami, rodzicami i dziećmi, a nawet całymi rodzinami. Ta szczególna praktyka była niezwykle popularna i stała się często wykorzystywanym motywem w japońskim teatrze dramatycznym.
