„MILK OF THE SIREN” to utwór pochodzący z udostępnionej 5 kwietnia 2023 roku wersji rozszerzonej wydanego 31 marca 2023 roku trzeciego pełnowymiarowego albumu studyjnego Melanie Martinez, zatytułowanego „PORTALS.” Wydawnictwo ukazało się za pośrednictwem wytwórni Atlantic Records.
Piosenka „MILK OF THE SIREN” jest zremasterowaną wersją utworu Melanie „Sirens”, który wyciekł do sieci w 2021 roku. Utwór nawiązuje do kobiet, które w historii były obrazowane i traktowane negatywnie, od najdawniejszych przekazów, w których piekne kobiety były zwodniczymi syrenami, wykorzystującymi swój urok by zwabić w swoje sidła marynarzy, którzy następnie ginęli na morzu. Kobiety były czarownicami oskarżanymi o praktykowanie czarnej magii, które torturowano, palono na stosach czy topiono. Ostatecznie kobiety były także delikatnymi istotami, które nie miały swoich praw i swojego zdania, podległe broniącym ich mężczyznom.

W jednej z relacji na żywo w mediach społecznościowych Melanie Martinez podkreśliła także, że jej trzeci album studyjny stanowi odejście od obecnego stylu muzycznego, przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu fabuły postaci, którą tworzy od lat.
