„Deep End” to pełen żalu utwór mówiący o bólu, który odczuwa Lecrae po śmierci George’a Floyda. Utwór stanowi szósty już utwór, po „I Ain’t Never Gonna Change”, „Over the Top”, „Self Discovery”, „Wheels Up” oraz „Set Me Free”, który zapowiada nowy album Artysty. Wydawnictwo zatytułowane „Restoration” odbędzie swoją premierę w sierpniu 2020 roku.

W tym pełnym wrażliwości i cierpienia utworze Lecrae opowiada o swojej walce z wiarą, zwątpieniu i trudnych realiach życia członków społeczności afroamerykańskich w USA, których na co dzień sam doświadcza. W refrenie piosenki wykorzystane zostają sample utworu John Summit z maja 2020 roku, zatytułowanego „Deep End”, oraz nieco zmienione teksty pochodzące z utworu Sleepy Hallow & Fousheé z kwietnia 2020 roku, noszącego tytuł „Deep End Freestyle.” Sam tytuł utworu jest też nawiązaniem do obydwu piosenek.

Po wydanym przez YK Osirisa utworze „Set Me Free”, utwór „Deep End” jest drugim oficjalnym singlem z długo wyczekiwanego albumu „Restoration.” Artysta po raz pierwszy zapowiedział wydanie singla 3 czerwca 2020 roku, kiedy to udostępnił fragment piosenki na swoim Instagramie i Twitterze.

Po wydaniu piosenki, zamieścił także informacje na jej temat: „Kilka lat temu powróciła moja trauma z dzieciństwa. Czułem się opuszczony i odwróciłem się od wszystkiego i wszystkich, których kochałem, w tym Boga. Był dla mnie łaskawy. Chciałem transakcyjnej ucieczki od bólu, depresji i lęku. Bóg nie jest jednak transakcyjny, jest relacyjny. Rozpocząłem swoją podróż do odnowienia. Gdy zbliżaliśmy się do 2020 roku, byłem przekonany, że będzie to fenomenalny rok, ale będę miał więcej problemów, rozterek i niepokojów. Rok 2020 był trudny… W ciągu ostatnich kilku miesięcy odczułem ogromny ból, od skutków pandemii po utrwalanie się niesprawiedliwości i rasizmu w Ameryce.”

Dalej dodał także: „Gdy nawiguję po moich zmaganiach, zdaję sobie sprawę, że odnowienie trwa. To nie jest sezon, to styl życia. Odnowienie polega na ciągłym chodzeniu z Bogiem, gdy idziecie przez świat z głęboko zakorzenionym, uszkodzonym ciałem. Tak, jestem zmęczony. Tak, jestem ranny. Tak, walczę o nadzieję każdego dnia. Jeśli mam być szczery, czasami staram się nie dać ponieść emocjom.”
