„The Rose” to utwór o ludziach, którzy próbują ściągać nas na ziemię i przeszkadzają nam w podążaniu za marzeniami. Zapewne Mullins ma tutaj na myśli kogoś konkretnego, człowieka który odwrócił się od zespołu, nie wróżąc im sukcesu. Równie dobrze jednak tekst tego kawałka można odnieść do każdej osoby, utrudniającej życie innym. Wokół nas pełno jest takich zawistników, zazdroszczących wiary we własne siły. Czują się dobrze tylko, gdy inni mają tak źle, jak oni sami i nie znoszą tych, którzy próbują wystąpić przed szereg i dostać od życia coś więcej.
Wokalista jednak nie zamierza dawać się powstrzymać. Wraz z zespołem udowodnił, że jest zdolny do osiągnięcia sukcesu i mimo tego, że ich droga naszpikowana była przeszkodami, udało im się wybić. Stali się rozpoznawalni, przyciągają do siebie fanów na całym świecie i jest to zasługa ich ciężkiej pracy, pewności siebie i wiary w swoje umiejętności. Nie potrzebują wokół siebie osób, które spisują ich na straty. Idą przed siebie, będąc wierni własnym ideałom, czując że robią to, co sprawia im szczęście.
