Opowieść miłosna, w której Nutini stawia się w roli człowieka zagubionego, nieszczęśliwego i osaczonego przez okrutną codzienność. W pierwszej części utworu opowiada o miejscu, w którym kiedyś się znajdował – miejscu, gdzie zawsze padał deszcz. Metaforycznie mówi o pewnej życiowej sytuacji, załamaniu, którego doświadczał. Dopiero, kiedy poznał ukochaną kobietę, jego życie zaczęło się zmieniać.
Szukał kogoś, kto pomoże mu zwalczyć permanentny ból istnienia, kto będzie dla niego wsparciem i pomocą. I choć sposób, który pozwolił mu odnaleźć ukochaną kobietę nie jest może najczystszy moralnie, to najważniejsze jest, że osiągnął swój cel. Nieważne do czego musiałby się posunąć, to, co ważne to bliskość osoby, którą kocha.
Tytuł piosenki odnosi się do miłości właśnie. „Candy” czyli cukierek to po prostu inne określenie na wielkie uczucie. Takie postawienie sytuacji sprawia, że jeszcze bardziej zdajemy sobie sprawę z uzależniającej mocy miłości, dla której Nutini zrobi wszystko – będzie o nią dbał, troszczył się. A w zamian chce tylko wzajemności, miłości od ukochanej kobiety.
Piosenka podobno opowiada o kłótni między Nutinim, a jego dziewczyną. Stąd końcówka, w której Paolo wyznaje dziewczynie, że zawsze będzie na nią czekać – poczeka aż ta przestanie się na niego gniewać. Jest cierpliwy, pełen uczucia – przecież to ona daje mu miłosne cukierki.
