„Fireworks” porusza temat poszukiwania jakiegoś sensu w naszym życiu. Bohater tego kawałka jest zmęczony tym, że nie potrafi odnaleźć celu swojej egzystencji. Monotonia coraz bardziej zaczyna go niszczyć, przez co cierpią wszystkie sfery jego funkcjonowania. Na początku piosenki widzimy, że ten mężczyzna nie może pozbyć się natrętnych myśli, wciąż zastanawia się nad bezsensownością wszystkiego, co go otacza.
Powoduje to, że oddala się on od swej ukochanej, a ich związek stopniowo popada w rutynę. Ta sytuacja tym bardziej sprawia, że poczucie własnej wartości bohatera jest w strzępach. Ma już powoli dość wszystkiego, banalność rzeczywistości zaczyna go przytłaczać. Rozmowy z innymi ludźmi są dla niego nudne, wypełnione fałszywą życzliwością. Nie ma dla niego żadnego ratunku.
Ludzkość jest według tego człowieka męcząca, a z drugiej strony ucieczka przed społeczeństwem i zawierzenie naturze także nie wydaje się dobrym pomysłem. Jedyne dobre wspomnienia, jakie ma narrator związane są z jego dzieciństwem, gdy jeszcze nie zdawał sobie sprawy, jak ponurym miejscem jest ten świat. Niestety, do przeszłości nie da się powrócić, więc bohater jest skazany na nieszczęście.
