A big part of the portrayal of Caesar has a lot to do with political and personal beliefs. For example Brutus had personal and political motives for making his decision to kill Caesar. He said “Not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome more” (Doc A) which means that he loved Caesar but he believed that Rome would be much better without him. Brutus thought that republic outlived itself and has fallen into corruption.

The conspirators also have agreed to kill anyone close to Caesar but Brutus disagreed with them. Brutus only wanted to kill Caesar because there was no need to kill Caesar’s friends. He wanted the murder to appear justified as being good for Rome and not for bloodthirstiness. This shows that Brutus only wanted good for Rome and he didn’t want to go too far and kill innocent people.
